Mum Shares Son's WAEC and UTME Results, Chemistry Score Sparks Reactions

A Nigerian mother has sparked a buzz on social media after sharing her son's 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and West African Examinations Council (WAEC) results on X, formerly Twitter. The proud mum, identified as @ladyr7863, expressed gratitude for her son's performance in both exams, but his chemistry score became a talking point among netizens.

Chemistry Score Raises Eyebrows

While the boy, Muhammad Abubakar Aliyu, achieved an A1 distinction in chemistry in his WAEC, he scored only 49 in the same subject in the UTME. This stark contrast led many to question how a student could excel in one exam but underperform in another. Despite the scrutiny, the mother remained steadfast in her pride. In response to a critic, she said, 'I am not only happy but am proud of him because a lot are fighting to get this limit. Alhamdulillah.'

UTME Result Breakdown

According to the result shared, Muhammad scored a total of 191 in the UTME, with 49 in English, 59 in Mathematics, 34 in Physics, and 49 in Chemistry. His WAEC results showed five distinctions, including A1 in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, English, and Further Mathematics.

Mixed Reactions Online

The post garnered a variety of comments. Some users congratulated the family, while others expressed concern over the UTME score. @Preacherdane commented, 'Wish him luck. But it depends on the school he is applying to. 190 won't enter any engineering course in the SW.' @Usouph advised, 'If he can't get the course he wants, please let him go to school of matriculation studies. With a WAEC like that, he could easily get 270+/400.' Others were more critical, with @Femi_Fairmea stating, 'I don't know your kid but he can't have that waec result and then stoop low to have that jamb results.... JAMB messed up his score too.'

Advice for the Future

Some netizens offered constructive feedback. @vickAlmondo noted, 'Why are you happy your kid got below 200 in JAMB he had one year to prepare for? This is unacceptable and also he has a major issue with physics that needs to be attended to quickly.' @nas_dotcom simply said, 'This is not something to celebrate. 191 score is very poor.'
