A violent clash between suspected cult groups has claimed the life of a former student at Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin. The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the academic community, occurred on the institution's campus on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
Victim Identified as Civil Engineering Student
The victim has been identified as Oyelade Habeeb Olawale, a former Civil Engineering student of the polytechnic. Official records show his matriculation number was ND/20/CEC/FT/206. Reports indicate that the clash involved former students affiliated with rival secret cults, leading to the fatal attack on Olawale.
Polytechnic Management Condemns Violence, Confirms Arrests
In an official statement, the Public Relations Officer of Kwara State Polytechnic, Halimat Garba, confirmed the tragic event. She described the incident as unfortunate and conveyed the management's strong condemnation of violence and illegal activities within the institution's vicinity.
"We deeply regret the loss of life and extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased," the PRO stated. The management revealed that its security personnel acted swiftly based on intelligence gathered.
Several suspects believed to be connected to the killing have been apprehended and handed over to the police for further investigation. The polytechnic authorities affirmed their full cooperation with law enforcement agencies to ensure justice is served.
