The former students of Jibowu High School have demonstrated a strong commitment to education by rewarding academic excellence and pledging enhanced support for teachers. The Jibowu High School Alumni Association (JHSAA) held a significant event on the school premises, combining a career talk, prize-giving, and a scholarship award ceremony.
Financial Boost for Students and Learning Materials
During the ceremony, the association awarded scholarships to nine students who were selected based on their outstanding academic records. In a major development, the National President of the association, Tosin Kadiri, announced that the scholarship value was increased from the previous N300,000 to N450,000.
Kadiri explained that the 50 per cent increase was a direct response to the current economic challenges, ensuring the financial support can adequately cover school fees and essential items for the beneficiaries. The goal is to make a tangible positive impact on their studies and encourage them to strive for a better future.
Beyond the scholarships, the alumni body also alleviated the burden of learning by donating various textbooks to over 39 high-achieving students across different school levels. Cheques and the educational materials were distributed to the beneficiaries at the event held on November 27, 2025.
Encouragement and Future Plans for Teachers
Addressing the students, Kadiri, who also serves as the Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), Lagos branch, encouraged those who did not benefit from the scheme not to be discouraged. He urged all students to remain committed to their education, uphold high academic standards, and avoid vices.
The association also revealed plans to support the school's educators. Kadiri disclosed that JHSAA intends to reactivate its medical programs for teachers. This initiative will include free eye screenings and provision of glasses, aimed at assisting teachers in the effective discharge of their duties and enhancing their overall welfare.
Other alumni speakers, including Mr Churchill Otele and Adeboye Teriba, motivated the students. They emphasized that education is a powerful tool for success, advising the pupils to dream big, prioritize hard work, remain disciplined, and invest their time wisely in consistent reading.
Leadership Applauds Consistent Impact
The school's Principal, Mrs Omolabake Teslim, praised the alumni association for its consistency in creating positive impacts on the school and its students every year. The immediate past president of the association, Abiodun Ariyibi, alongside the Chairman of the parent-teachers forum, Mrs Edosa, also took a moment to appreciate the teachers for imparting the right knowledge and moral values in the students, noting that this is the correct path for holistic development.
