Federal Lawmaker Invests Over N54 Million in Education for Constituents

In a significant move to support education, Hon. Abdullahi Ahmed, the House of Representatives member for Musawa/Matazu Federal Constituency, has disbursed scholarship grants exceeding N54 million to a total of 2,199 students from his constituency. The event, which took place over the weekend in the Musawa council area, was orchestrated through the lawmaker's Education Committee, chaired by former Deputy Governor of Katsina State, Tukur Jikamshi.

Financial Breakdown and Beneficiary Selection

The scholarship initiative was meticulously designed to assist students from less privileged backgrounds, enabling them to compete fairly in their academic pursuits. After a rigorous screening process across the political wards of Musawa and Matazu, the beneficiaries were selected. They are currently studying various courses in universities, Colleges of Education, and polytechnics both within and outside Katsina State.

The financial allocation was detailed as follows:

  • 1,029 university students received N30,000 each, summing up to N30.8 million.
  • 1,170 students pursuing National Certificate in Education (NCE) and National Diploma (ND) programmes in Colleges of Education and polytechnics were granted N20,000 each, totaling N23.4 million.

Beyond Scholarships: Employment and Empowerment

Hon. Abdullahi Ahmed, who also serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on Interior, did not stop at educational support. He announced plans to secure employment letters for an additional 420 constituents across the electoral wards. This is part of his revolving measures to combat unemployment and foster sustainable development in the area.

Furthermore, the lawmaker revealed the distribution of 500 brand new motorcycles to selected youths within the constituency. He explained that while he initially procured 350 units, an extra 150 were purchased to include more beneficiaries. These motorcycles, aimed at alleviating transportation difficulties, will be distributed in the next phase of his empowerment programme.

Highlighting his previous efforts, Ahmed noted that he had already secured federal appointment slots for over 181 constituents into various institutions, including the Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Army, Nigeria Immigration Service, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

Commitment to Development and Unity

Hon. Ahmed pledged to remain focused on driving development and maintaining unity within his constituency. He vowed not to be distracted by critics, emphasizing his commitment to doing what is right for his people. The executive chairman of Musawa council area, Hon. Aliyu Gingin, praised the initiative, describing it as a developmental drive that brings democratic dividends closer to rural dwellers. He added that the lawmaker's educational drive aligns with the goals of the Governor Dikko Radda-led administration, potentially boosting the state's educational landscape and easing the burdens on students.
