Lafarge Africa Plc, a prominent building solutions company and a member of the Huaxin Group, has reinforced its dedication to corporate social responsibility with a significant infrastructure project in Ogun State. The company announced the completion of a major renovation at the Christian Pelamourges Memorial Baptist Day Nursery and Primary School in Agbesi, Ewekoro, on 6 December 2025.
Comprehensive School Makeover
The project involved a full-scale upgrade of the school's facilities. Workers refurbished five blocks of classrooms and extended the Head Teacher's office. New constructions included dedicated dining and toilet facilities for the pupils and staff. The renovation also covered essential structural work, with teams installing new roofing, carrying out electrical and plumbing works, and completing plastering, tiling, and painting across all the classroom blocks.
To ensure a conducive learning environment, Lafarge Africa supplied new furnishings. This provision included desks, chairs, library shelves, and dining tables. Beyond the classrooms, the company installed a fully functional playground and a football field, creating spaces for recreation and physical development for the school community.
Commitment to Sustainable Development
Speaking on the initiative, the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge Africa Plc, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, emphasized that the project reflects the company's core belief in education as a pillar for sustainable growth. He stated that quality education is a powerful tool for shaping children's futures and that such investments help empower young minds and strengthen the social fabric of host communities.
Alignment with State Objectives
The project received commendation from the Ogun State government. Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, noted that the school's renovation dovetails perfectly with the state's own programme for rehabilitating educational facilities. This synergy highlights how private sector interventions can effectively support public sector goals in advancing education infrastructure across Nigeria.
