A new Pan-African education organisation has officially entered the arena with a bold mission to cultivate visionary leaders within the continent's classrooms. AfriTeach announced its launch at a press conference in Lagos, outlining comprehensive plans designed to tackle some of the most persistent challenges facing Africa's education sector.
Vision and Mission: Building Leadership from the Classroom
The organisation was co-founded by Dr Kehinde Nwani, Prof. Sade Ogunsola, and Mr Otto Orondaam, united by the conviction that every African child has a right to quality learning. Speaking at the unveiling, Executive Director Rita Ekpenyong stated that AfriTeach's core objective is to ensure educators across Africa receive robust support, training, and modern tools to thrive in a dynamic world.
Dr Kehinde Nwani, who serves as Co-founder and CEO, explained that AfriTeach was born from a direct response to systemic issues like teacher shortages, inadequate training, poor infrastructure, and unqualified teachers in classrooms. "Our vision is to build an Africa where every teacher is a leader, every classroom is a hub of innovation, and every learner reaches their full potential," Nwani emphasised.
Programmes and Growing Community
AfriTeach's strategy to bridge these gaps involves a multi-pronged approach. The organisation has already established a Pan-African collaborative network and professional learning communities. Impressively, it has attracted over 1,500 educators from various African countries into this community. A recent continental training session hosted by the group drew more than 800 participants.
Its structured programmes include:
- A dedicated teacher training institute.
- A transformational fellowship programme.
- An African-led accreditation framework supported by digital learning platforms.
These initiatives are open to teachers in both public and private schools across Africa, with registration conducted via its website and social media channels.
Pan-African Conference Set for Lagos in 2026
In a significant move to foster wider collaboration, AfriTeach announced plans to host its inaugural Pan-African education conference on May 2, 2026, at the MUSON Centre in Lagos. The event is expected to draw educators, policymakers, and stakeholders from across the continent.
Mr Samuel Omoregie, Head of Strategy and Programmes, highlighted that the conference will serve as a major platform for policy dialogue and innovation. It will feature keynote addresses, panel discussions, and workshops focused on crafting sustainable solutions for the sector's challenges.
The launch of AfriTeach has been met with positive reactions from education stakeholders, who view it as a critical and timely intervention. By focusing on empowering educators, building leadership capacity, and promoting Africa-led solutions, the organisation aims to create a lasting, positive impact on the quality of education for millions of learners.
