FCT Minister Takes Swift Action Against Unauthorized School Closure Directive

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has moved decisively to address confusion surrounding school closures in Abuja, with Minister Nyesom Wike ordering the immediate suspension of the Education Mandate Secretary, Dr Danlami Hayyo.

This action comes following an unauthorized circular that suggested all government schools in the Federal Capital Territory would close by November 28, 2025, creating widespread concern among parents and educational institutions.

Administration Clarifies Position on School Calendar

Through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the FCTA firmly denied that any official decision had been made to close schools prematurely. The administration described the circulating reports as "false and misleading" and emphasized that the approved academic calendar remains fully in effect.

Parents, students, and school authorities have been urged to disregard the rumour and continue with normal academic activities as scheduled. The clarification aims to prevent unnecessary disruption to the educational process across the territory.

Disciplinary Measures and Security Assurance

In addition to suspending Dr Hayyo, Minister Wike has directed the Acting Head of Service, Mrs Nancy Sabanti Nathan, to initiate disciplinary proceedings against the Director of School Services, Mrs Aishatu Sani Alhassan, in accordance with established civil service rules.

The FCTA also addressed security concerns, assuring residents, particularly students, of adequate protection. The Minister has ordered the resumption of Operation Sweep and other security initiatives to maintain safety within the federal capital.

This comprehensive response demonstrates the administration's commitment to maintaining educational stability while ensuring proper authorization procedures are followed for all official communications affecting public services.
