The Alumni Association of Ahmadiyya Grammar School in Ogbagi-Akoko has made a compelling appeal to the Ondo State Government for collaboration in revitalizing their alma mater and restoring its former glory. This call comes as the institution prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary with ambitious development plans.
N500 Million Development Fund Launched
During a press conference announcing the school's golden jubilee celebrations, the National Organising Committee Chairman, Sirajuddin Abdusalam-Alada, revealed that the alumni have initiated a comprehensive N500 million development fund. This substantial financial commitment aims to give the school a complete facelift and address critical infrastructure needs.
Abdusalam-Alada, speaking alongside other committee members, emphasized that educational development represents a shared responsibility between government and stakeholders. He stressed that strategic collaboration offers the most practical approach to elevating the school's standards and transforming it into a model of academic excellence.
Addressing Teacher Shortages and Infrastructure Gaps
The alumni association has proposed a multi-faceted strategy to tackle the pressing shortage of qualified teachers. Among the immediate solutions is the direct employment and payment of part-time teachers in core subjects using alumni resources. This innovative approach would help bridge critical staffing gaps while maintaining educational quality.
The association has outlined several key projects for implementation, including the construction and equipping of a modern ICT centre, completion of the boys' hostel to revive boarding school culture, and supporting government efforts in renovating classroom blocks originally constructed during the administration of late Governor Olusegun Agagu.
Abdusalam-Alada, who served as library prefect during his school days, expressed particular passion for transforming the school's library facilities. "We aim to develop an e-library that gives students access to global learning resources," he added, highlighting the commitment to modern educational tools.
Caution on School Ownership Transfer
Amid ongoing discussions about returning schools to their original missionary owners, the alumni association has cautioned that any such transfer must be based on proven capability rather than sentimental considerations. This position reflects their commitment to ensuring that any structural changes genuinely benefit the school's educational standards.
"We, the Alumni Association of Ahmadiyya Grammar School, have opened our arms for the government to partner with us in developing Ondo State and making this school a model of collaboration between an alumni body and government," Abdusalam-Alada stated.
He expressed confidence that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa would be willing to work with the association, describing the proposed partnership as a win-win situation for students, teachers, parents, alumni, and the government.
The 50th anniversary celebrations will feature the official launch of the N500 million development fund and an educational lecture titled 'Solid Minerals: Key to Economic Diversification and Sustainable Development' to be delivered by Professor Muraina Mohammed, an alumnus from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba.
