Baze University in Abuja has achieved a significant academic milestone by graduating its first-ever doctoral students during the institution's 12th Convocation ceremony held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

Historic Academic Achievement

The university celebrated a landmark moment as it conferred doctoral degrees for the first time since its establishment, signaling a new chapter in its academic development. The convocation produced 972 graduates across various academic levels, including 647 undergraduates, 33 Postgraduate Diploma recipients, 276 Master's degree holders, and 16 doctoral graduates.

The Vice-Chancellor of Baze University described the graduating students as embodiments of integrity, creativity, and excellence. She emphasized that the graduates had demonstrated remarkable resilience and character consistent with the institution's core values. The university leader urged them to remain resourceful and maintain honesty in their professional careers, noting that their certificates would create opportunities both within Nigeria and internationally.

Honoring African Leadership

The ceremony featured the conferment of an honorary Doctorate Degree in Political Science (Honoris Causa) on the President of Senegal, His Excellency Bassirou Diomaye Faye. The honor recognized President Faye's exceptional leadership and dedication to education and democracy across the African continent.

Represented by the Senegalese Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Nicolas Auguste Nyouky, President Faye expressed deep appreciation for the recognition and praised Baze University for fostering quality learning and academic cooperation throughout Africa.

Academic Excellence and Institutional Growth

Among the outstanding graduates recognized for academic excellence were Simon Efosa Ebhojaiye, who graduated with an LL.M in Law, and Loveth Abiere Ugele, who earned an M.Sc in International Relations and Diplomacy. Both students emerged as the Best Overall Graduating Students in the postgraduate category.

The university further expanded its global connections by naming its School of Postgraduate Studies after the President of Sierra Leone, His Excellency Julius Maada Bio, who delivered the commencement address. President Bio commended Baze University for nurturing a generation of innovative African leaders and strengthening academic excellence on the continent.

Since its inception, Baze University has graduated over 3,900 students and currently enrolls more than 4,200 students. The institution operates ten faculties, including Law, Management and Social Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Computing and IT, Engineering, and the College of Medicine and Health Sciences.

All academic programmes at Baze University are fully accredited by the National Universities Commission and nine professional bodies. The institution's teaching staff comprises experienced professionals drawn from Nigeria and the diaspora, combining substantial industry experience with academic expertise.

The Faculty of Law alone boasts fourteen professors, including four Senior Advocates of Nigeria, while the Department of International Relations and Diplomacy features former Ambassadors, retired Generals, and ex-Federal Permanent Secretaries among its faculty members.

The Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed the university's commitment to excellence, research, and character formation. She stated that the graduation of the first set of PhD students reflects Baze University's pledge to sustain timely programme completion and produce graduates who are well-prepared to impact both national development and global progress.
