A young Nigerian lady, Zainab Hammed, has celebrated her graduation from Bayero University, Kano, where she earned a second-class upper degree in law and emerged as the best student in her faculty. She shared her cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.47 out of 5.0 and reflected on her academic journey.
From Rejection to Triumph
On her LinkedIn page, Zainab recounted how she wrote her first Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in 2018 as a 15-year-old with big dreams. Despite a strong performance, she did not gain admission to her preferred university. Undeterred, she waited a year and retook the exam in 2019, this time choosing Bayero University, Kano, to study Common and Islamic Law. Moving from Lagos to Kano was a difficult decision, but her determination paid off when she was admitted in the first batch.
Academic Excellence
Zainab started her first year with a perfect 5.00 GPA in the first semester, setting high expectations for a first-class degree. However, fate had other plans. After ten rigorous semesters, including strikes and delays, she graduated with a CGPA of 4.47. She was recognized as the Overall Best Graduating Student of her set, the Best Female Graduating Student, and the Best Academic Performer (All Time). Additionally, she received the Annual Best Student Award (2021–2025), the LAWSAN BUK Merit Award for the highest CGPA in the Faculty of Law, and the Best Academic Performer award for the Sui Generis Class of 2024.
Social Media Reactions
Her post triggered an outpouring of congratulatory messages from many who celebrated her achievements. The story highlights her resilience and dedication, inspiring others facing similar challenges.
