The Old Grammarians Society of CMS Grammar School in Lagos has embarked on an ambitious mission to transform educational standards through technology with the launch of a multi-billion-naira ICT Development Centre.
Revolutionizing Education Through Technology
The multi-billion-naira ICT Development Centre represents a significant investment in the future of education at one of Nigeria's oldest secondary institutions. According to the association's President, Lekan Ogunbanwo, this groundbreaking project will fundamentally redefine learning standards while preserving the school's esteemed legacy for generations to come.
Construction is already underway on the state-of-the-art facility, with completion expected within the next 18 months. The centre is positioned to become the central hub driving the school's comprehensive digital transformation journey.
Sustainable Infrastructure and Maintenance
Recognizing the importance of long-term sustainability, the Old Grammarians Society has established a dedicated maintenance board to ensure all facilities remain fully functional long after completion. "We work hand-in-hand with the Executive Secretary, the principal, and school management to ensure standards never drop," Ogunbanwo emphasized during his announcement to journalists.
The president further highlighted that this ICT Centre forms part of their broader commitment to supporting the school in every possible way, demonstrating the alumni association's unwavering dedication to their alma mater's continued excellence.
Celebrating Excellence Through Merit Awards
The project announcement served as the backdrop for the 2025 Merit Awards ceremony held at the Venerable B.A. Adelaja Hall in Bariga. During this prestigious event, the association honored 27 distinguished alumni for their remarkable contributions to both the school and society at large.
The recognition included:
- Four senior Old Grammarians, aged between 86 and 90 years, who received Lifetime Achievement Awards
- Twenty-three other alumni recognized with Individual Merit Awards for their exceptional service and community impact
Ogunbanwo praised the lifetime honourees for achieving excellence across diverse professional fields including engineering, medicine, and accounting. Notably, one recipient had been decorated with the national honour of Member of the Federal Republic (MFR), setting a remarkable benchmark for younger Grammarians to emulate.
Strengthening Partnerships and Traditions
The Old Grammarians Society president expressed profound gratitude to the Anglican Communion and the Lagos Anglican Schools Management Board for their sustained partnership in maintaining the school's high standards. Victor Olusa, Executive Secretary of the management board, applauded the Old Boys for their role in nurturing leaders across Nigeria, Europe, and America.
"The honourees represent the enduring greatness of CMS Grammar School," Olusa stated, noting that the annual Merit Awards reflect both outstanding achievement and divine grace.
Former society President Olu Vincent added that the awards ceremony underscored a seamless generational handover within the Old Grammarians Society. This continuity is strengthened by an oath of allegiance that binds members to uphold the school's century-old traditions and values.
With the ICT Centre development progressing and alumni engagement deepening, the association reaffirms its commitment to strengthening academics, music, and sports programs. This ensures CMS Grammar School continues producing exceptional leaders who will shape Nigeria's future for generations to come.
