Harvard Tops Global Ranking for 15th Year; Five Nigerian Unis

Harvard University has once again secured the top position in the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) Global 2000 list, marking its 15th consecutive year at the summit. The United Arab Emirates-based organization released the 2026 edition of its rankings on Monday, evaluating institutions based on factors such as employability and research output.

Global Rankings Overview

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) claimed the second spot, while the United States dominated the top 10, securing eight positions. A total of 313 U.S. institutions made the Global 2000 list, underscoring the country's strong presence in higher education.

Nigerian Universities in the Rankings

Five Nigerian universities were included in the Global 2000 list. The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) ranked 1533, followed by the University of Lagos (UNILAG) at 1683. Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, secured the 1779th position, while Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, ranked 1884. These institutions have reasserted their prominence, leading the pack ahead of private universities in the country.
