Moyomade Adegbite, a 21-year-old graduate of Lagos State University (LASU), has become an online inspiration after revealing that he wrote JAMB twice before securing admission to study computer science. Despite lacking a laptop, he taught himself frontend development using only his mobile phone and eventually graduated with a First Class Lower result, achieving a CGPA of 4.37 out of 5.0.
Adegbite shared his journey on his X page, @moyomadee7, and later provided additional details directly to Legit.ng. His story highlights resilience, self-learning, and the transformative impact of extracurricular involvement during his university years.
From Secondary School to LASU Admission
After finishing secondary school in 2020, Adegbite deliberately chose not to sit for JAMB that year. He explained that he wanted to learn a skill and felt he was not yet ready for university life. During that period, he attempted to learn graphic design but stopped after several months, citing the lack of a laptop as a major obstacle.
Rather than waiting until he could afford a computer, Adegbite found an alternative. In 2022, he began teaching himself frontend development using only his mobile phone. That same year, he wrote JAMB for the second time and successfully gained admission to LASU to study computer science, having missed the cut-off mark in his first attempt.
“In 2022, I still couldn’t afford a laptop but I decided to take things into my own hands and started learning frontend development on my mobile phone,” he wrote on X.
How University Life Shaped Adegbite
By his own admission, Adegbite entered LASU with a simple goal: earn the degree and leave. He maintained that mindset throughout his first two years of study. However, a turning point came in his third year when he applied to join the LASU debate society for the second time. After going through an interview process, he was accepted as a trainee and eventually became a full member.
That experience broadened his outlook beyond his original academic targets, helping him grow personally and socially. After completing his studies, Adegbite announced his final result on X, posting: “Computer Science. First class lower (4.37/5.0).”
The post drew significant attention, with many users celebrating his achievement and the resilience that underpinned it. His story serves as a reminder that determination and resourcefulness can overcome financial and academic hurdles.
