Kehinde Ajasa, a graduate of Lagos State University (LASU), has emerged as the best graduating student in the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology, achieving a historic first for the faculty. He earned a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.70, secured three scholarships simultaneously, and won the Prof. Benjamin Segun Aribisala Prize, according to a LinkedIn post he shared in August 2026.
From Private School to Government School in Alimosho
Ajasa's academic journey was shaped by a significant transition during his first year of junior secondary school. His family could no longer afford private school fees, leading to his transfer to a government school in the Alimosho area of Lagos. In his own words, earning a university degree felt like a distant dream for most students in that environment.
Despite these challenges, Ajasa pursued Computer Science at LASU. Across his undergraduate programme, he recorded As in 51 out of 63 courses. He also held more than six leadership positions and won over ten awards, including representing his university at a national public speaking competition, which he won.
Teaching and Mentoring Over 1,500 Students
Beyond his academic achievements, Ajasa taught computer science to more than 1,500 students, with 70 per cent of those sessions offered free of charge. He has continued to return to the Alimosho community every Wednesday to mentor young people. The day before posting his story on LinkedIn, he shared it with children there, and their reaction moved him to tears.
He wrote: "Seeing how much it meant to them brought me to tears. At such moments, I am reminded that this is why I must keep winning: to inspire kids like me from underserved communities."
Support System and Celebrations
In his post, Ajasa credited his parents, his sisters Boluwatife Ajasa and Fadekemi Ajasa-Adeoye, his brother-in-law Dr Samuel Adeoye, and his twin brother Taiwo Ajasa for their support. He also expressed gratitude to his mentors at CIH, Soji Megbowon and Adewale Oseni.
Adewale Oseni said: "I am forever grateful to God for the opportunity to have been part of your success story. Cheers to the new records we are breaking. If I know anything about Kehinde Ajasa, it is the conviction that more records are about to get broken. Proud of you Bro."
Aishah Olayinka Opeyemi added: "Oh my dear friend, this is just the beginning! You, I mean we, are definitely going global!!!"
Ajasa's achievement marks a milestone for the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology at LASU, as he is the first student to earn the distinction of best graduating student in the faculty.
