A graduate of the University of Ibadan (UI) has shared details of his admission process, revealing the JAMB score and cut-off mark that secured his place at the prestigious institution. The individual, who studied English, explained that his journey was driven by passion rather than circumstance.
Graduate's Academic Achievements
The young man, known on social media as @creative_yua, posted his JAMB and post-UTME scores online. He scored 267 in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and achieved 79% in the post-UTME screening. These results earned him admission to study English at the University of Ibadan in 2015.
He noted that during that year, the cut-off mark for Law at UI was 74%, but he deliberately chose English over more popular courses like Law or Mass Communication. This decision, he said, was based on his personal interests and a desire to stand out.
Choosing English Over Law
In his viral post, the graduate emphasized that unlike many students who settle for less popular courses due to inability to meet cut-off marks, he consciously selected English. He explained that during his secondary school days, most arts students aspired to study Law, while science students aimed for Medicine and commercial students pursued Accounting. However, he decided to follow his own path.
He stated: "I told myself I wasn't going to jump on the bandwagon. I was an Arts student, so everyone expected I'd automatically study Law. But I chose to study English at the expense of Law or Mass Communication."
Reactions and Related Stories
The post sparked reactions online, with many users commending his unique approach. In a similar story, a UI Mechanical Engineering student also shared his admission scores: 276 in JAMB and a strong post-UTME result. He noted that courses like Mechanical Engineering and Law require high aggregate scores at UI.
Another report highlighted a UI aspirant who missed the Law cut-off mark by 3 points but eventually gained admission to a state university to study Law after multiple attempts.
