A young Nigerian woman, Deborah Animashaun, has celebrated her graduation from the University of Ibadan (UI) with a degree in Medical Laboratory Science, sharing her remarkable academic journey that began when she finished secondary school at the age of 14.

In a detailed post on her LinkedIn page, Deborah recounted the struggles she faced in gaining admission to university after completing her secondary education at such a young age. She knew that immediate university entry was unlikely, so she proceeded to Cambridge A Levels to further her studies.

Achieving Academic Excellence

Deborah completed her Cambridge A Levels in 2020 with outstanding AAA grades, which earned her direct entry admission into the University of Ibadan to study Medical Laboratory Science. She noted that she resumed in 200 level, and the journey transformed her significantly.

Now at 21, she is graduating as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, and she proudly stated that the girl who entered UI is not the same person leaving. Over the years, she grew academically, professionally, and personally, taking on leadership roles that shaped her into a stronger and more confident individual.

Challenges in Final Year Project

Deborah highlighted the difficulties she encountered during her final year project, which focused on the "Prevalence of Alloimmunization Among Multiple Transfused Patients." Due to an ongoing JOHESU strike, recruiting patients for the study became extremely challenging, and submission deadlines were approaching rapidly.

While many classmates had completed their projects, she was still struggling to find participants, and those few patients she identified often refused consent. Despite the mental and emotional exhaustion, she expressed deep gratitude to her supervisor for unwavering support and encouragement.

Graduation with Distinction

Despite the obstacles, Deborah completed her final professional examinations with a distinction. She acknowledged that the journey was neither easy nor smooth, but she credited God for sustaining her. She also thanked her parents, friends, mentors, lecturers, and everyone who supported her along the way.

She is now officially MLSct Animashaun Deborah Aayooluwa, BMLS Ibadan (Hematology and Blood Transfusion Science), AMLSCN.

Deborah's story triggered numerous reactions on social media, with many congratulating her on her achievement. Ibitoye Oluwatobiloba commented, "Congratulations, MLSCT Animashaun Deborah."
