A Nigerian man, Oladotun Olakunle, has shared his inspiring academic journey as he finally graduated from the University of Ibadan (UI) with a bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science. He gained admission in 2019 but faced significant delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Challenges Along the Way
Oladotun narrated that COVID-19 and the ASUU strike prevented students from resuming until 2021. Another eight-month ASUU strike in 2022 further delayed their studies, just as they began their second year.
Clinical Training Experience
In 2023, he resumed his clinicals at the College of Medicine, University College Hospital (UCH). The training included rotations through various laboratories such as Chemical Pathology, Medical Microbiology, Histopathology, Haematology, and the Blood Bank. He also underwent a three-month external training at Adeoyo Maternity Hospital and Ring Road Specialist Hospital from December 2024 to March 2025.
Leadership and Induction
Throughout his university journey, Oladotun served in several leadership capacities. He was officially inducted into the Medical Laboratory Science profession on May 11, 2026. He expressed gratitude to God, his parents, and siblings for their support.
