UI Medical Student Resumed 2 Years Late, Bags Degree

A medical student from the University of Ibadan, Samuel Olojo, has celebrated earning his Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science degree after facing multiple academic delays. Olojo gained admission into the Biomedical Laboratory Science program in 2019 following his graduation from The International School, University of Ibadan. However, his academic journey was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, which postponed his resumption until 2021.

Academic Setbacks and Resilience

During his 200-level year in 2022, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) embarked on an eight-month strike, further delaying his studies. Despite these challenges, Olojo completed his degree in haematology and blood transfusion science. He was formally inducted into the medical laboratory science profession on May 11, 2026, earning the title of Medical Laboratory Scientist.

Reflections on the Journey

In a LinkedIn post, Olojo expressed gratitude for his perseverance. He stated, "This is long overdue. But guess who is now a whole graduate of the University of Ibadan? Reintroducing MLSct. He highlighted the disruptions caused by COVID-19 and the ASUU strike, noting that the journey required discipline, consistency, sacrifice, and resilience.
