UI Offers Law Admission to Struggling UTME Candidate, Story Trends

A young Nigerian man, Abdulmoruf Abdulwasii, has captured hearts online after sharing his remarkable journey to gaining admission into the University of Ibadan to study Law, despite facing significant financial challenges during his Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Struggles During UTME Preparation

Abdulmoruf, who attended a public secondary school, recounted on his LinkedIn page how he used his lunch money to pay for UTME tutorial fees. He explained that his father gave him 200 naira for lunch daily, but he would use 150 naira for lessons and go hungry for the rest of the day. When tutorial fees increased, he could no longer afford them, so he approached the tutorial center's co-founder and offered to work in exchange for free tuition. He took on multiple roles, including cleaner, treasurer, public relations officer, and even a tutor.

From Illusion to Reality

In his post, Abdulmoruf wrote: "Once an Illusion, Now a Reality. I once dreamt of becoming a lawyer. But life has a way of making you forgo your dreams due to circumstances beyond your control. I was once a secondary school student with a lot of ambition, but honestly, I once thought it was just an illusion." He emphasized that hope kept him going and advised other students to have a "sieve in their brain" to filter advice from others. He encouraged them not to let others impose their realities on them.
