UI Student Shares Journey to Campus Fellowship Presidency

A Nigerian student at the University of Ibadan, Esther Ojo, has shared her inspiring journey to becoming the president of a campus fellowship, detailing the experiences and lessons that shaped her leadership path.

In a post on her LinkedIn page, Ojo recounted how she initially declined a leadership nomination in her fellowship, as she had envisioned her leadership journey unfolding in academic or personal development spaces rather than religious ones.

Declining the First Opportunity

Ojo explained that she had always loved leadership and sought to create positive change. However, upon entering the university, she focused on her academic and personal growth, believing that leadership roles would come in areas connected to her educational experience.

Toward the end of her first year, she received a nomination to serve as an executive in her campus fellowship but declined, feeling she was in a season of learning and preparation.

Embracing Spiritual Leadership

Over time, Ojo's perspective shifted. She began to see the unique responsibility of spiritual leadership—influencing lives with eternal significance. By the end of her second year, she accepted roles as Follow-Up Coordinator and Assistant Evangelism Coordinator.

She drew parallels between these roles and Human Resource Management, learning valuable skills in people management, communication, empathy, and relationship building.

Becoming President

Toward the end of her third year, Ojo received another nomination—this time to serve as President of Christ Life Campus Fellowship, University of Ibadan. She accepted and currently holds this leadership position.

Reflecting on her journey, Ojo emphasized that leadership is not about choosing a comfortable sector but about serving wherever one is called and equipped to make an impact.
