UI Student with 9 A1s in WAEC Earns First-Class Degree

A young Nigerian man, Oluwasegun Akinwola, has celebrated the successful conclusion of his physiotherapy studies at the University of Ibadan, sharing his remarkable academic journey on social media. He revealed that he completed secondary school in 2019 with nine A1s in his West African Senior School Certificate Examination before gaining admission to the university. His story has sparked widespread reactions online, with many congratulating him for his outstanding achievements.

Academic Excellence from the Start

Akinwola, known as @_numuno on X, detailed how he emerged as the best graduating student in his class with a first-class cumulative grade point average of 3.84 out of 4.0. In his post, he recounted the joy of checking his WAEC results and later being recognized by the Oyo State Government for having the best WAEC results in the state in 2019. Despite pressure from peers and teachers to pursue medicine or engineering, he chose physiotherapy after careful research, a decision he described as life-changing.

Scholarship and A-Level Success

Due to his outstanding WAEC performance, Oritamefa Baptist Model School awarded him a full scholarship for its A-Level program. Although the COVID-19 pandemic and academic strikes delayed his start, he began in February 2020 and sat for the May/June examinations, earning three A's. However, he did not use the A-Level result for admission, as he had already secured a UTME admission in 2019. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity, which allowed him to meet wonderful friends.
