UNILAG Graduate Triumphs in Actuarial Science After Choosing Difficult Path
A determined graduate from the University of Lagos, UNILAG, has captured attention online by sharing her academic journey after selecting a challenging course specifically to test her limits. Kehinde Adekala graduated with a Second Class Upper Division, achieving a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.36 out of 5.00, and openly discussed the motivations behind her unconventional choice.
Choosing the Hard Road for Personal Growth
In a heartfelt post on LinkedIn, Adekala revealed that she chose Actuarial Science—a field she initially did not fully comprehend—primarily because she wanted a significant challenge. "When I chose Actuarial Science, many wondered why I’d pick such a difficult road. To be honest, I didn't fully know what I was getting into; I just knew I wanted a challenge," she wrote. This decision was met with curiosity and skepticism from others, but she remained steadfast in her pursuit.
Adekala officially graduated on January 21, 2026, and reflected on the arduous journey. "There were days I almost gave up, but God pulled me through. Every time the path felt too steep, His grace provided the strength to keep climbing," she shared, emphasizing the role of faith and perseverance in her success.
Academic Achievement and Extracurricular Development
Alongside her academic results, which she displayed in a screenshot showing grades from her 100 level to final year, Adekala highlighted the broader lessons learned. "But my education didn't just happen in the classroom. This journey was defined by leadership and volunteering, serving in leadership roles twice and volunteering opened my eyes to the world beyond books," she explained.
She also noted the development of resilience, stating, "I’ve learned that being an Actuary isn’t just about calculating risk; it’s about having the grit to manage it when things don't go as planned." This mindset, she believes, has prepared her for professional challenges ahead.
Gratitude and Future Readiness
Adekala expressed deep gratitude to her family and friends for their unwavering support during tough times. "To my family, thank you for holding me down when things were rough. To my friends, thank you for the love and support," she acknowledged.
Concluding her message, she affirmed, "I’m now a BSc holder in Actuarial Science. I sought a challenge, I found my footing, and with God on my side, I am officially ready for the future." Her story serves as an inspiration to students facing academic hurdles, demonstrating that with determination and support, even the most daunting courses can be conquered.
