UNIMED Inducts 35 Pioneer Radiographers, Urges Professionalism
UNIMED inducts 35 pioneer radiographers

The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) in Ondo State has marked a significant milestone with the formal induction of its first-ever cohort of radiography graduates. A total of 35 pioneer graduates were officially welcomed into the radiography profession in a ceremony held on 1 December 2025.

A Call for Professional Excellence

The induction was conducted by the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN). Representing the Registrar, the Deputy Registrar of the Board, Chidiebere Thaddeus, administered the oath and charged the new professionals to consistently demonstrate a high level of professionalism in their duties. The President of the Association of Radiographers of Nigeria (ARN), Dr Musa Yusuf, formally admitted the inductees, urging them to strictly abide by the established ethics of the profession.

Exploring the Versatility of Radiography

During the event at the university's Laje Campus, a keynote lecture highlighted the expansive opportunities within the field. The Head of the Department of Radiography at the University of Lagos College of Medicine, Mrs. Josephine Iyefe Joshua, delivered a talk titled ‘What is Versatility in Radiography?’. She emphasised that radiographers are versatile health professionals whose expertise opens doors to careers far beyond direct patient care.

Iyefe outlined numerous advanced specialisation areas, including:

  • Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
  • Fluoroscopy and Interventional Radiology
  • Mammography and Ultrasound
  • Bone Densitometry (DEXA)
  • Nuclear Medicine
  • Radiation Therapy for cancer treatment

She traced the profession's dynamic evolution since the discovery of X-rays in 1895, stating, “The radiographer’s versatility is not just in the advanced equipment they use, but in the multiple roles they play within healthcare.”

Leadership Charges and Recognition

The Vice-Chancellor of UNIMED, Prof. Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, congratulated the inductees on their hard-earned achievement. She encouraged them to leverage the knowledge gained from the university's state-of-the-art training facilities to make a positive impact on the healthcare sector. “I have no doubt that the University has the best demonstration room in the country, and to have been trained here makes you the best,” she affirmed.

Dr Remilekun Akinrinmade, the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, advised the new radiographers to pay close attention to the rules and regulations governing the profession, which he described as a “promising course of study.”

In a related achievement, Abiodun Victor Ayomide, the pioneer President of UNIMED’s Students Union Government, was honoured with the award for the overall best graduating student.
