Successful participants in this nationwide programme will receive a monthly stipend of N22,500 throughout their training period, which is available in both six-month and one-year formats across various technical fields.

Programme Details and Government Announcement

According to a statement issued by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, applications for the TVET Programme commenced on April 13, 2026. The programme represents a significant government investment in vocational education, aimed at addressing unemployment challenges and fostering economic growth through skill development.

Training Structure and Available Skills

The TVET Programme offers two distinct training pathways to accommodate different applicant backgrounds. The Short-Term Certificate (STC) programme lasts six months and is designed for first-time trainees, school leavers, and individuals without formal education. Applicants for this track must provide a valid National Identification Number (NIN) and Bank Verification Number (BVN).

The Vocational Education and Innovation (VEI) programme runs for one year and targets individuals with prior education or informal training experience. Entry requirements for this track include proof of skills through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), a First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC), or any recognised non-formal education certificate.

Training will cover numerous sectors critical to economic development, including:

  • Construction and building trades
  • Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
  • Automotive technology and repair
  • Agriculture and livestock farming
  • Creative media and digital production
  • Fashion design and garment making
  • Beauty therapy and cosmetology
  • Hospitality and catering services
  • Solar PV installation and maintenance
  • Woodwork, carpentry, and furniture making

Financial Support and Additional Benefits

All programme participants will receive a monthly stipend of N22,500 throughout their training duration, providing financial support as they develop their skills. Upon successful completion of the programme, participants will receive nationally recognised certificates that validate their acquired competencies.

The Ministry of Education has also announced collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism to expand opportunities in creative and cultural industries, creating additional pathways for programme graduates. Applicants are required to commit to full participation throughout their chosen training period to benefit from these opportunities.

Training Centres and Application Process

Training will be conducted at various accredited centres across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones, including federal and state technical colleges, state-owned accredited institutions, and registered private vocational centres. This distributed approach ensures that quality vocational training is accessible to youths throughout the country.

Interested applicants can apply through the official TVET portal at https://www.tvet.education.gov.ng/. The application process requires uploading relevant documents, selecting a preferred training centre and trade, and submitting the completed application for review. The programme represents a comprehensive government effort to strengthen Nigeria's technical capacity and create sustainable opportunities for youth empowerment and economic participation.
