Apple Music has announced Lagos-based alt-pop artist Esoterica as the latest addition to its Up Next artist development program in Nigeria. The program spotlights emerging talent, and Esoterica will be featured on the curated global Up Next playlist.
From London to Lagos: Esoterica's Musical Journey
Originally from London, Esoterica relocated to Lagos in 2020. She is recognized for her experimental, genre-fluid sound that blends folk, soul, hip-hop, rock, pop, and Afro House. Her music explores deeply personal themes of faith, identity, and self-discovery.
Esoterica began her music career in London in 2019 before moving to Nigeria. Her debut single 'Goldmine' was released in 2023, followed by tracks including 'Think I Might,' 'Decisions,' 'She Said,' and 'Time of My Life' from Peruzzi's Sabali album. Her latest single '4 Days' was released last month.
Upcoming EP Avant-God and Community Initiatives
This summer, Esoterica is set to release her six-track EP Avant-God, which reflects her experimental and emotionally expansive approach. Alongside the EP, she runs 'Existing For Free,' a live performance platform dedicated to amplifying and supporting African women's voices through intimate showcases and community-driven events in Lagos and beyond.
Esoterica is also the co-founder of the indie music collective 'Space,' which helps platform rising alternative artists including Braye and Rigo Kamp.
Artist's Reaction and Apple Music's Program
Reflecting on her recognition, Esoterica told Apple Music: "I've worked and worked on myself and my craft for so long now. I'm at the point of just being content with the process of creation without expecting much in return. Then boom! That's the exact moment when everything starts pouring in. It took me years to realise that I'd been an artist all along, and that sharing my gift was a gift in itself."
As the latest Up Next act in Nigeria, Esoterica will be featured on Apple Music's Up Next playlist, which is curated by Apple Music editors worldwide and highlights emerging artists across all genres.
