The Delborough Lagos, acclaimed as one of Africa's most prestigious hospitality brands, celebrated its board chairman, the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Ugochukwu Alfred Achebe (Agbogidi), on his 85th birthday. The revered 21st monarch of the Onitsha dynasty was honored with a glorious birthday dinner party on June 20, 2026, at The Delborough Lagos, where the entire management and staff stood in high ovation to celebrate His Royal Majesty.
Grand Celebration with Dignitaries
The royal party took place just days after The Delborough Lagos welcomed Michelin-starred chef Sauro Bison to pilot its DANI Restaurant, offering world-class dining experiences. This marked the first time the chef set foot on African soil. Former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Senator Ita Giwa, NDC presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi, Mr. Charles Oputa (also known as Area Fada or Charly Boy), and a host of other dignitaries from all walks of life graced the occasion.
Cultural Highlights
The highlights of the celebration included cultural dance displays by different cultural groups and an exceptional, colorful welcome ceremony by the staff of The Delborough Lagos to celebrate the monarch. The event underscored the deep respect and admiration for the Obi of Onitsha, who has served as board chairman of the hotel.
