16-Year-Old Artist Nicole Harry-Erin Raises N1.2M for Orphanage with Abuja Exhibition
Teen Artist's Exhibition Raises N1.2M for Abuja Orphanage

In a remarkable fusion of youthful creativity and social responsibility, a teenage artist in Abuja has demonstrated the powerful role art can play in philanthropy. Nicole Harry-Erin, a 16-year-old contemporary visual artist, hosted a solo exhibition titled 'The Essence of Life' at the Nike Art Gallery in Abuja last weekend. The event successfully blended artistic expression with a charitable mission to support vulnerable children.

Art That Celebrates Life and Funds a Cause

The exhibition, held on the weekend of 6 December 2025, featured six distinct art pieces. Each work was carefully crafted to highlight themes of everyday beauty, resilience, and spontaneous joy. Nicole used her meticulous brush strokes to weave together elements of light and music, creating a vibrant visual narrative that celebrated life's rich moments. The dynamic nature of her art deeply resonated with the diverse and enthusiastic audience in attendance.

Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the show was a crucial fundraising initiative. Each art piece was priced at N100,000. The primary goal was to generate proceeds dedicated to supporting the children at the Hope and Faith Orphanage in Apo Dutse, Abuja. The event underscored how creative talent can be harnessed to address pressing social needs.

Inspiration from Apo Dutse and a Call to Action

Nicole revealed that the inspiration for this philanthropic exhibition came directly from a personal visit to the Apo Dutse Orphanage. Witnessing the challenges faced by the children there motivated her to channel her passion for painting into a tangible force for good. She expressed a heartfelt desire to see more people contribute to the well-being of the less privileged.

"I hope my exhibition encourages more people to contribute to the well-being of the less privileged, not just through art exhibitions but in various creative ways," Nicole said. "'The Essence of Life' reflects the little moments that enrich our lives like enjoying breakfast, reading a book or playing the piano." She extended an invitation to fellow artists and compassionate individuals to join in supporting children living in difficult circumstances.

Significant Impact and Broader Appeals

The coordinator of the Hope and Faith Orphanage, Charity ThankGod, expressed profound gratitude for Nicole's generous initiative. She confirmed that the funds raised, approximately N1.2 million, will significantly contribute to covering the school fees of 10 children under the orphanage's care. ThankGod also used the opportunity to call on both government bodies and private sector operators to establish sustainable structures that facilitate ongoing support for orphanages across the country.

The event also drew commendation from art enthusiasts who appreciated its deeper message. Pastor Oladitan Olowodola, one of the attendees, praised Nicole's philanthropic spirit. He emphasized the critical need to inspire young people to look beyond personal gain and invest in helping others.

"The widening gap between the haves and have-nots is a pressing issue. Many remain unaware of the urgent need for change," Pastor Olowodola stated. "This exhibition challenges everyone to recognise that if a 16-year-old can contribute to society, we all have the potential to make an even greater difference."

Nicole Harry-Erin's 'The Essence of Life' exhibition stands as a powerful testament to how creativity, compassion, and action can intersect to foster optimism and create real, positive change in the community.
