The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced that the prestigious 2025 CAF Awards ceremony will take place in Rabat, Morocco. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, November 19, 2025, at 7 p.m. local time, which is the same as Nigerian time.
Nigerian Stars in the Spotlight
Nigeria is set to have a significant presence at the gala, with several of its top football talents shortlisted for major honours. Reigning African Player of the Year, Victor Osimhen, leads the charge as he aims to defend his title, having been nominated for the Men’s Player of the Year award.
The Super Eagles will also be represented by goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, who is in the running for Goalkeeper of the Year, and youth international Daniel Bameyi, nominated for the Young Player of the Year category.
On the women's side, the Super Falcons are strongly represented. Rasheedat Ajibade and Esther Okoronkwo are both contenders for the African Women’s Player of the Year, while the formidable Chiamaka Nnadozie has earned a nomination for Goalkeeper of the Year.
A Continent Celebrates Football Excellence
The host nation, Morocco, boasts the highest number of nominees across various categories. This includes players from its celebrated domestic clubs RS Berkane and AS FAR, as well as coaches Walid Regragui and Tarik Sektioui.
CAF stated that this year's event will "celebrate individual and collective excellence that has elevated African football globally." The nominees were selected based on their standout performances in both club and international competitions over the past year.
The Men’s Player of the Year category is particularly stacked, featuring ten elite players. Alongside Osimhen, the list includes Egyptian legend Mohamed Salah, Cameroon’s Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, Senegal’s Pape Matar Sarr, and Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi.
National Teams and Clubs Vie for Glory
In the women’s categories, the Super Falcons of Nigeria will compete against Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses and South Africa’s Banyana Banyana for the Women’s National Team of the Year award.
Club football will also be honoured. Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens FC is a nominee for Women’s Club of the Year. On the men's side, the competition is fierce, with clubs like Mamelodi Sundowns, ASEC Mimosas, and RS Berkane leading the nominations.
This ceremony marks the first time the CAF Awards are returning to Rabat since 2022, reinforcing Morocco's status as a premier host for major African football events. The winners will be revealed during a live ceremony attended by football administrators, former legends, and officials from across the continent.
