In a significant move to celebrate excellence, the market intelligence platform Petroleumprice.ng has launched its inaugural industry awards, recognising key players who have shaped Nigeria's downstream petroleum sector. The first Petroleum Prize, Recognition and Awards 2025 was unveiled on Sunday, December 21, 2025.
Hybrid Selection Process Ensures Credibility
The organisers designed a unique, transparent selection method to ensure the awards reflected genuine market impact. Sixty percent of the final score came from votes cast by users across the downstream sector, including marketers, depot operators, transporters, and end-users. This gave a direct voice to those who experience the effects of pricing and supply decisions daily.
The remaining 40 per cent of the assessment was determined by a panel of four independent judges. Each judge contributed an equal share, focusing their evaluation on measurable impact, consistency, and contributions to market stability. This hybrid model aimed to balance real-world public experience with professional expert scrutiny.

The platform announced the following recipients for its maiden edition, highlighting their performance in operational efficiency and sector-wide influence:
- Best Fuel Station of the Year: MRS Oil
- Petroleum Depot Owner of the Year: Gabriel Ogbechie of Rainoil
- Best Female Petroleum Depot Owner of the Year: Samson Victoria of BOVAS
- Downstream Petroleum Industry Advocate of the Year: Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN)
- Downstream Sector Personality of the Year: Aliko Dangote
According to Petroleumprice.ng, the awards were created in response to a growing demand for transparent, data-driven recognition within Nigeria's vital downstream petroleum industry. The initiative is described as the first downstream-focused recognition framework in Nigeria built primarily on user participation.
Celebrating Leadership in a Transforming Sector
The awards come at a time when Nigeria's downstream sector is undergoing significant changes driven by deregulation, infrastructure expansion, and increased private investment. The Petroleum Prize seeks to document and acknowledge industry leadership during this critical period of transition.
The platform emphasised that the awards are not meant to promote individual brands but to highlight performance, accountability, and impact. It added that future editions will continue to rely on open participation, published criteria, and a consistent scoring framework to maintain integrity and relevance.
The launch of the awards follows recent market developments, including a notable 15.58% reduction in the petrol gantry price by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, bringing the cost down from N828 to N699 per litre effective December 11, 2025.
