Nigerian Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, globally known as Davido, is celebrating a significant career milestone after securing a nomination for the 2026 Grammy Awards.
A Viral Celebration
In a video that quickly went viral across social media platforms, Davido was captured in a moment of pure joy. The artist danced enthusiastically to his hit track With You, a collaboration with fellow Nigerian star Omah Lay. Playfully referencing his own lyrics, he exclaimed, "Who be that, double sweater," marking the exciting news. He shared the clip on his Instagram page on Friday, November 8, 2025, captioning it with a message of gratitude and determination: "All Glory To God! Job Not Done." The post ignited a flood of congratulatory messages from fans, colleagues, and friends within the music industry.
The Nomination and the Competition
Davido's celebratory mood stems from his song With You earning a spot in the Best African Music Performance category for the 68th Grammy Awards. The prestigious ceremony is scheduled to take place on February 1, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, USA. This nomination marks Davido's second consecutive recognition by the Recording Academy, following his first three nominations in 2025 for his album Timeless and its hit singles Unavailable and Feel.
However, the category is packed with formidable African talent. The competition includes Burna Boy with his track Love, the collaborative single Gimme Dat by Wizkid and Ayra Starr, Hope and Love by Ugandan artist Eddy Kenzo featuring Mehran Matin, and Push 2 Start by South Africa's rising star Tyla.
Burna Boy's Historic Streak
In a related highlight, Burna Boy has once again made Grammy history. His nominations this year extend his incredible streak, making him the first African artist ever to secure Grammy nominations for seven consecutive years. With his track Love contending for Best African Music Performance and his album No Sign of Weakness nominated for Best Global Music Album, his career total now stands at an impressive 13 nominations. He previously won a Grammy in 2021 for his album Twice As Tall.
The 68th Grammy Awards will honor music released between September 2024 and August 2025 across 95 categories. This year's nominations are led by American rapper Kendrick Lamar with nine nods, followed by Lady Gaga, Jack Antonoff, and Cirkut with seven each. The win in the Best African Music Performance category at the previous ceremony went to Nigeria's Tems for her single Love Me Jeje.
