Dolly Parton Accepts Honorary Oscar from Home

Legendary singer and philanthropist Dolly Parton has added a prestigious Oscar to her collection of honours, receiving the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award during the Governors Awards ceremony.

A Heartfelt Virtual Acceptance

Due to undisclosed health issues, the 79-year-old music icon was unable to travel to the Hollywood event. However, she participated in true Dolly fashion, sending a warm and emotional virtual speech that captivated the audience. In her message, Parton expressed profound gratitude for the recognition of her decades of charitable work.

The star shared a touching reflection on her humble beginnings, growing up in a crowded home as one of twelve children. She credited her parents for teaching her the power of giving, even when the family had very little. "I grew up in a house with 12 kids… my mom and daddy showed me that the more you give, the more blessings come your way," Parton recounted.

A Lifetime of Giving Back

Parton explained that this early lesson became the guiding principle of her life. She has spent her entire career trying to live by that example, using her fame and fortune to help others. Receiving an award specifically for her humanitarian efforts felt like a ultimate blessing.

Her heartfelt speech culminated in the sincere words, "From my heart to yours, I truly thank you." She also took a moment to thank her longtime friend and '9 to 5' co-star, Lily Tomlin, who introduced her during the event.

Rather than seeing the award as a conclusion, Parton told the Academy that it inspires her to do even more. "It makes me want to dream up new ways to help lift people up — and isn’t that what we’re here for?" she poignantly asked.
