Alaafin of Oyo Commends Security Forces During Visit to Rescued Victims

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, paid a sympathy visit to the rescued pupils and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State at the Odogbo Military Cantonment in Ojoo, Ibadan, on Monday, July 13, 2026. The monarch praised the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies for their relentless efforts in securing the release of the victims from their abductors. He specifically acknowledged the commitment and significant contributions of the security forces in the fight against terrorism and counter-insurgency operations in the country.

Financial Support and Appreciation for Fellow Monarchs

During the visit, Oba Owoade donated cash to the rescued victims to support their recovery after their 56-day ordeal. He also expressed gratitude for the relentlessness of other monarchs who worked towards the release of the pupils from the den of bandits. The traditional ruler’s gesture aimed to alleviate the immediate needs of the victims as they reintegrate into normal life.

Mixed Reactions from the Public

The Alaafin’s show of support has stirred mixed reactions on social media. Many applauded the monarch for his kindness and leadership. Owolafeabdulrasheed Ishola commented, "Well done kabiyesi Long life sir." Olasunkanmi Kolawole Samuel said, "God bless the Imperial Majesty Engineer Abimbola Owoade for the kind gestures." However, others called for broader support. Halimat Yusuf asked, "What about the family of the teachers that were killed?" Austin Blackjesus Nwoke added, "They should also remember the families that have lost a soul in the same forest and the rescue team as well."
