Filmmaker Declares Unenjoyed Sex as Slavery in Marriage
Nigerian filmmaker Aniebiet Francis has stated that any sexual act a woman does not enjoy or consent to constitutes sex slavery, even within the confines of marriage. According to her, a husband has no right to demand sex or attempt new sexual acts with his wife without her explicit approval or consent.
Empowerment Gives Women Audacity to Dictate Terms
Aniebiet added that financial, intellectual, and emotional empowerment provides a woman with the audacity to decide when she wants sex and how her body is treated during sexual encounters. She made these remarks in a Facebook post on Monday, July 13.
"As a woman, any sex you are not enjoying is sex slavery. When you are emotionally, intellectually, and financially empowered, you will have the audacity to decide when you want sex and how your body should be treated during sex," she wrote. "Even your husband shouldn't force sex on you when you are not up for it or try new things with your body without your consent and approval."
Reactions and Implications
The post has sparked discussions on marital rights and consent, emphasizing the importance of mutual agreement in sexual relations. Aniebiet's statement challenges traditional norms and calls for a reevaluation of consent within marriage, highlighting the need for women's empowerment to assert their autonomy.
