Veteran Yoruba Nollywood actor Yomi King, popularly known as Baba Opebe, has broken his silence on a serious health condition that has kept him away from public life for over a year. During a charity visit from fellow actor Kunle Afod, Baba Opebe revealed that doctors diagnosed him with low blood levels, requiring a transfusion of four pints of blood. Afod, who traveled to the actor's remote home after fans reported losing contact with him, donated ₦100,000 on the spot and urged Nigerians to provide financial, medical, and spiritual support.
Baba Opebe Opens Up About His Health Condition
Speaking during the visit, which Afod shared on Instagram on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, Baba Opebe addressed speculation about his absence. 'I have been sick since last year. The doctor said I have low blood in my system. I was given four pints of blood. Some people said I went into hiding because I do not want people to know about my condition. My children are taking care of me,' he said. He added that he had visited multiple hospitals over the course of more than a year and expressed gratitude to fellow Nollywood actor Mr Latin for checking on him and offering support.
Afod described the journey to Baba Opebe's home as extremely remote, noting that the veteran actor's phone had stopped connecting, leaving his whereabouts unknown to many. The visit was prompted by growing concern from fans who could no longer reach him.
Kunle Afod Donates ₦100,000 and Calls for Public Support
Visibly shaken throughout the visit, Afod made a direct plea to Nigerians watching the video. He asked for financial, medical, and spiritual support for the ailing veteran. Afod's donation of ₦100,000 was made on the spot, and he urged the public to rally behind Baba Opebe.
Baba Opebe, whose real name is Yomi King, is a veteran Nigerian comic actor known for his classic comedic roles in Yoruba Nollywood films. He rose to fame after training under the late Babatunde Omidina, aka Baba Suwe, and starring in the 1987 TV show Erinkeke.
