Veteran Nollywood actress Bukky Wright has shared the emotional reason behind her decision to pursue acting. In a heartfelt interview at the Scar2Shine Emiralty Connect event, she revealed that her entry into the movie industry was not driven by a desire for fame but by a deeply personal need to reconnect with her children.
Wright explained that after marrying into a wealthy family, her in-laws looked down on her and doubted her potential. As a result, her children were taken from her at a very young age. She stated, "I actually started acting so that when my children grew up, they would be able to know exactly where to find me. I never thought of being a star."
The actress recounted the painful experience of being separated from her children due to her marriage to a highly affluent family. "My children were taken from me when they were very young because I married into a very wealthy family, and they could not think I would become anything in this life," she said, receiving supportive applause from the audience.
Despite the early separation, Wright successfully reconnected with her family. Her strategy of using the silver screen as a beacon proved effective. After building a legendary career in Nigeria, she relocated abroad to be fully present in her children's adult lives.
This journey of reconciliation culminated in a major family milestone in late 2025, when she celebrated the beautiful wedding of her son, Eniola, to his partner, Sara Bonet. Reflecting on the ceremony, the proud mother expressed her joy and gratitude online, writing: "I rejoiced and was glad with so much gratitude to Allah for sparing my life to see my baby boy get married... Thanks for making me a proud mother."
