Chaos erupted aboard an Abuja-bound aircraft on Monday when popular social media activist Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, and comedian Freedom Atsepoyi, popularly called Mr. Jollof, engaged in a physical altercation that left passengers stunned and frightened.
Mid-Air Confrontation Turns Violent
The incident, which occurred on November 17, 2025, began as a heated verbal exchange between the two celebrities before rapidly escalating into a full-blown physical fight. Passengers aboard the packed aircraft watched in shock as the two men traded blows mid-flight, forcing cabin crew and brave passengers to intervene and separate the combatants.
Video footage of the altercation has since gone viral across social media platforms, showing the intense moment when the confrontation turned physical. While the exact trigger for the fight remains unclear at the time of reporting, sources indicate the clash may be connected to an ongoing online feud between VeryDarkMan and Mr. Jollof's wife.
Social Media Fallout and Allegations
Shortly after the incident, VeryDarkMan took to his Facebook page to share his version of events in a video post. The controversial activist claimed he confronted the comedian during the fracas and made startling allegations about the nature of the physical contact.
"I don chop Jollof father for inside the plane. He bite me, man wey de bite," VeryDarkMan alleged in his video, suggesting that Mr. Jollof resorted to biting during the struggle. These claims have added fuel to the already intense social media discussion surrounding the incident.
Regulatory Response and Potential Consequences
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has confirmed it is actively investigating the incident. Michael Achimugu, NCAA spokesperson, stated on social media platform X that the organization is awaiting a formal incident report from the airline involved.
"I have asked why the airline has not forwarded an incident report, and I am told that they are presently in a management meeting. This is normal, too. Even abroad," Achimugu explained.
The NCAA has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the incident, with officers in Asaba tasked with determining the exact actions taken by aviation security, pilots, and other personnel during the altercation. Key questions being examined include how quickly security responded, the duration of the incident before the pilot called for assistance, and the handling of the passengers involved.
Achimugu emphasized that while the NCAA lacks prosecutorial powers, the authority typically recommends that airlines blacklist unruly passengers and can formally request prosecution through the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police.
