Davido's Dad Reveals How Adeleke Defeated APC's Oyetola

Dr Adedeji Adeleke, father of music star Davido and elder brother to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has credited divine intervention for the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) victory over the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state's governorship election.

In a viral video, Adeleke directly addressed supporters of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, insisting the win was not due to financial muscle. He claimed the campaign spent nothing on election day, attributing the outcome to his strong belief in God.

Faith Over Finances

"Record me and play it to him, let him hear. The reason why we defeated Oyetola and why I was not afraid was not because we have more money, we didn't even spend any money on election day, it was because my believe in God Almighty is very strong," Adeleke said in the footage that has stirred widespread online conversation.

The elder Adeleke's remarks highlighted the campaign's confidence and candour, particularly the claim that no funds were disbursed on polling day itself.

Official Election Results

The Returning Officer for the Osun governorship election, Joshua Ogunwole, announced the final tally at the INEC Collation Centre in Osogbo. Governor Ademola Adeleke secured 511,067 votes, defeating APC's Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress finished a distant third with 17,180 votes.

Ogunwole confirmed that 1,005,800 votes were cast across the state's 30 local government areas, with 985,079 valid votes recorded and 1,010,684 voters accredited for the poll.

"For that, Adeleke Ademola Jackson of the Accord Party, having satisfied the requirement of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is hereby returned elected," Ogunwole declared at the collation centre.

Family Celebrations

Following the victory, Davido's wife, Chioma Adeleke, joined the family in celebrating the win on Sunday, August 16, 2026. She reshared Governor Adeleke's official Instagram victory post on her Stories, showing solidarity with the family's political success.

The election outcome and Adeleke's subsequent remarks have dominated discussions, with the governor's re-election marking a significant political development in Osun State.
