My Voice Was Shaking: Dunsin Oyekan Recalls Worship at Wife's Burial
Dunsin Oyekan Opens Up on Worship at Wife's Burial

Popular gospel singer Dunsin Oyekan, also known as The Eagle, has opened up about the emotional moment he led worship at the burial of his late wife Adedoyin Oyekan, who passed away on May 18, 2019. In a recent video shared on his Instagram account, the music minister recounted how he deliberately carried his guitar to the funeral, choosing to run to God through worship rather than breaking down, even as mourners wept around him.

In the video captioned 'Pain to Purpose', Dunsin Oyekan detailed the moment that tested his faith and strength. He explained that on the day of the burial, he gathered people around and led songs of praise despite the overwhelming emotions. "My voice was shaking. God, you are so good. That was the song coming out of my spirit. People were crying, I was crying, but I kept singing, God, you are so good. I ended with Hallelujah, that's what my song will be," he said.

Choosing Worship Over Grief

The gospel singer revealed that he had to make a conscious choice between sinking into grief or rising through worship. He admitted that no words of comfort from people could ease the pain of losing his wife, whom he met during their university days. "I made up my mind that it is either I go down or I go up. And I chose worship. I ran to God. After seeing that people's advice and comfort were not entering my head, I called God. I said, oh, is this what people go through? I will run to God," Dunsin Oyekan shared.
