Nigerian rapper and actor Folarin Falana, widely known as Falz, has publicly challenged First Lady Oluremi Tinubu's recent statement urging young Nigerians to help reduce the pressure on the federal government. In an interview on Arise TV, the music star questioned the logic behind the remark, insisting that elected officials voluntarily accepted the responsibilities of leadership.
"What do you mean pressure on the government? Did anyone beg you to take up this role?" Falz asked, expressing disbelief at the First Lady's appeal. His comments come amid growing public frustration over economic hardship and insecurity in the country.
Falz Questions Government Spending Priorities
The rapper also took aim at the government's spending patterns, arguing that resources appear to be directed toward luxury acquisitions instead of addressing the nation's pressing security challenges. He pointed out that the purchase of vehicles, jets, and other expensive assets should not overshadow efforts to protect citizens from violence and crime.
According to Falz, the government's focus on material wealth sends the wrong message to Nigerians who are struggling with daily threats to their safety. He urged authorities to realign their priorities to meet the needs of the people.
'E Mi L'Okan' Slogan Comes Under Fire
Falz also revisited President Bola Tinubu's now-famous campaign slogan, "E Mi L'Okan," which translates to "It's my turn" in Yoruba. The entertainer described it as one of the most unbelievable political statements he has ever heard, arguing that anyone who campaigned with such confidence should not later complain about the burdens of governing.
"If you said 'It's my turn,' then take full responsibility. Don't turn around and say the pressure is too much," Falz said, suggesting that the slogan reflected a sense of entitlement rather than a commitment to service.
Social Media Reactions to Falz's Comments
The rapper's remarks quickly sparked reactions on social media. User @Ogadimw wrote: "Falz don't be worried and surprised, your Yoruba brothers are too lazy that they can't just think outside the box. Oduduwa lazy republic Emilokan my foot." Another user, @mrIphanyi, commented: "We keep waking up to garbage each day. They've destroyed our lives already, now they want to enslave our great grandchildren."
User @enney4real added: "Political slogans often return to the spotlight when leaders face criticism. Whether people agree or disagree, performance is what citizens remember most. Do you think results matter more than campaign promises?"
Falz's History of Political Activism
This is not the first time Falz has spoken out against government actions. In a previous incident, he criticized the Nigerian police for shielding the identity of an officer accused of fatally shooting 28-year-old Mene Ogidi in Effurun, Delta State. The rapper expressed his disapproval on Instagram after the police released an official image of the suspect with his face covered. Falz stated that the covering was unnecessary because the public had already seen the officer's face in earlier videos of the incident.
