Nollywood actress and politician Funke Adesiyan has officially withdrawn from the race for the House of Representatives seat representing Ibadan South-East/North-East Federal Constituency in Oyo State. The decision was announced in a letter dated April 24, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ibadan South-East Local Government Area. The letter was shared on her Instagram page on Saturday.
Reason for Withdrawal
Adesiyan stated that her decision came after careful reflection and high-level consultations, describing it as a personal and well-considered move. She emphasized that the choice was guided by a clear assessment of the broader political landscape and her commitment to long-term value, credibility, and purposeful service.
Gratitude to Supporters
The actress-turned-politician expressed deep appreciation to her supporters, party members, and stakeholders for their unwavering support throughout her political journey. She acknowledged the confidence placed in her and the encouragement received from within and beyond the constituency.
Future Plans
Adesiyan noted that stepping back would allow her to refocus and continue serving the people through other platforms. She reiterated her commitment to contributing meaningfully to the progress and development of Oyo State and Nigeria through strategic avenues.
Political Background
In 2019, Adesiyan was appointed Personal Assistant to former First Lady Aisha Buhari on Domestic and Social Events, following approval by former President Muhammadu Buhari. She entered active politics in 2011 as the South-West coordinator for Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau's presidential campaign. She later contested for a seat in the Oyo State House of Assembly under the Peoples Democratic Party before defecting to the APC in 2018.
Film Career
Adesiyan is also well-known for her roles in Nollywood films, including Eti Keta and Obinrin Ale. Her withdrawal marks a significant moment in her political career, as she chooses to prioritize long-term impact over immediate electoral ambition.
