An elderly Nigerian man has captured widespread attention online after proudly displaying the car he purchased in 1981, a vehicle he continues to use regularly for travel between Ibadan and Lagos. The man, featured in a TikTok video posted by the account @vintagecarsof_lagos, showcased his Volkswagen Beetle, which he bought brand new for 2,000 naira at the time.
Man Details His Vintage Car Purchase
In the video, the man explained that the car does not require water for its operation. He stated: "That year, I bought it for 2,000 naira. Brand new one. This vehicle you're seeing is what they call Volkswagen Beetle. The one I bought in 1981. I use it to travel from Ibadan to Lagos twice a week." He also opened the car's compartment to reveal the engine and added: "Sometimes when the water is on the road, the car will move like a canoe in the water. It's a very good car, it is durable and it doesn't use water. It's a very durable and strong car as far back as the early 70s."
