Mohbad's Father Makes Desperate Appeal for DNA Test to Finally Bury Son

Joseph Aloba, the father of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has issued a heartfelt plea to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the global community. He is seeking assistance to conduct a DNA test on his grandson, Liam, so he can finally lay his son to rest after nearly three years in a morgue.

Three-Year Burial Delay Due to Unresolved Paternity Dispute

The 27-year-old Afrobeats singer passed away in September 2023, but his body remains unburied as legal battles over the paternity of his child, Liam, continue to stall proceedings. Court orders had mandated DNA testing, but repeated delays in laboratory arrangements and international logistics have prevented the process from moving forward.

Baba Mohbad, as he is widely known, expressed deep frustration in a recent social media video, stating, "I'm pleading with the entire world, not just Lagos state government, for help. I need to conduct a DNA test so I can finally lay my son to rest. It's heartbreaking enough that he died at a very young age, and now it's taking too long to bury him."

Accusations Against Lagos State Authorities

Aloba has accused Lagos state officials of deliberately obstructing the DNA process, alleging that a welfare officer selected fake hospitals to frustrate the test. He vowed to return to his home state of Ekiti once justice is served, saying he no longer wishes to remain in Lagos.

"I pray I don't regret coming to Lagos state. In fact, I'll be going back to my state of origin, Ekiti state, as soon as I get justice for my son, Mohbad," he declared in the emotional video.

Legal Battles and Public Reaction

The controversy between Mohbad's widow, Wunmi, and the Aloba family over Liam's paternity has kept the case entangled in legal proceedings. Earlier, Baba Mohbad rejected a court decision to appoint an independent laboratory, insisting on transparency and preferring to use his own private pathologist while allowing the court to conduct a separate test.

Nigerians on social media have reacted with mixed emotions to the prolonged saga:

  • Some users urged the family to focus on burial rather than DNA testing.
  • Others questioned why the process has taken so long.
  • Many expressed sympathy for Mohbad's suffering even after death.

The case highlights the intersection of celebrity culture, legal disputes, and family grief in Nigeria's entertainment landscape, with no resolution in sight as the third anniversary of Mohbad's death approaches.
