Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P of the defunct music duo P-Square, has made explosive allegations against his elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye, claiming that Jude called his son a bastard and urged his wife, Lola Omotayo, to abort their pregnancy before they married. The singer detailed the alleged family interference during his eight-part tell-all series, shedding light on the events that he believes fractured his relationship with his brothers, Jude and Paul Okoye.
Allegations of Family Interference
According to Peter, the tension became apparent during a peace meeting allegedly convened by former Cross River State Governor Liyel Imoke, who reportedly blamed Jude for the group's internal crisis. Peter then made a startling claim: "What if I tell you guys that Jude called my son a bastard in front of Lola and me?" He recounted that the incident occurred after Lola became pregnant while they were dating.
Peter explained that he chose to publicly acknowledge his unborn child despite concerns about the impact on P-Square's image. He recalled that after the group won three awards at the Soundcity Music Video Awards, journalists asked who they wanted to dedicate the awards to. "We went for the Soundcity Awards, and we won three awards that day. When we were leaving the venue, the media people gathered around us, and they asked who we were dedicating the award to. I picked up the awards and dedicated the first one to God, the second to the fans, and for the last one, I said, 'This one is for the mother of my unborn child and my incoming son.' Paul and Jude then walked away," Peter said.
Confrontation and Ultimatum
Peter claimed Jude later confronted him over the public declaration. "Jude later pulled over and asked me what that was for, saying it would ruin our career. By the time we got home in Omole, the next thing I heard from Jude was that, 'She must commot that pikin,'" he alleged. The situation escalated when Peter's late mother visited from Jos, reportedly asking to speak with Lola privately before Jude made remarks about the unborn child.
"When my mum came, I greeted her, and I was smiling, and she just asked about Lola without asking after the baby. I asked her if she wanted to see Lola, and she said I should not call the baby but only Lola first," Peter recounted. He continued: "When Lola came, my mum said, 'Young woman, we the Okoye family have decided that you should leave our son alone.' The next thing, Jude stretched his hand to the picture frame of my son by the bedside and looked at it. He said the child was a bastard, and Lola started crying. Next thing, they pushed Lola out of the house."
Missed Birth and Wedding
Peter also alleged that he missed the birth of his first child because Jude booked a performance on the delivery date. He added that a similar situation nearly caused him to miss his wedding, claiming that work commitments were deliberately scheduled to clash with important personal milestones. These allegations paint a picture of a manager prioritizing career over family, a theme that has recurred in the brothers' disputes.
Mother's Regret and Reconciliation Attempts
The singer revealed that his mother later expressed regret over the incident and sought reconciliation. "When I explained everything to my mum, she said she would talk to my brothers to apologise. I said no problem. Only the first son and Henry apologised. Paul and Jude never apologised, and my mum asked them to do it, but they never did until she died," Peter said. He also argued that his mother's actions in later years contradicted claims that she disliked his wife.
"When my brothers say my mum never liked Lola, I said they have forgotten so soon. When my mum was sick and we flew her from Jos, she was at St. Nicholas Hospital on the Island while we lived on the mainland. Our mum was admitted to that hospital, and four of her pastors were around with her. They stayed in Lola's house, and she took care of them," Peter explained.
Ongoing Feud
The latest allegations add another chapter to the long-running dispute between the Okoye brothers. P-Square first split in 2017 before reuniting in 2021. In recent months, however, Peter, Paul, and Jude have traded fresh accusations over family matters, business dealings, and the events that led to the group's repeated breakups. The public airing of these private grievances continues to captivate fans and observers, as the once-celebrated group remains fractured.
