Television personality Ray J has faced a legal setback after a judge ruled that his countersuit against reality TV stars Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner must be resolved through private arbitration. The decision marks a partial victory for the Kardashian-Jenner duo, who have been embroiled in a legal dispute with the singer and actor.
Arbitration Clause Enforced
The court determined that Ray J's countersuit, which alleges that Kardashian and Jenner breached a prior settlement agreement by continuing to reference their past sex tape on the reality show The Kardashians, falls under an arbitration clause previously agreed upon by all parties. As a result, the countersuit will not proceed in open court but will instead be handled privately, following the terms of the original agreement.
Defamation Case Remains in Court
However, the defamation lawsuit filed by Kardashian and Jenner against Ray J will continue in the public court system. The pair accused Ray J of making false claims that they were under investigation for racketeering. This case will proceed separately from the arbitration proceedings.
Legal Reactions
Responding to the court's decision, attorney Alex Spiro, who represents Kardashian and Jenner, stated: "We expected the court to rule in our favor and we're pleased with the decision." The ruling represents another chapter in the long-running legal and public dispute between the parties, with both sides continuing to pursue separate claims through different legal channels.
