RCCG Denies False Narratives About Adeboye, Tinubu Support

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has issued a strong statement defending its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, against a series of false narratives circulating on social media. The church described the allegations as deliberate misrepresentations driven by personal interests and agenda-setting, rather than facts.

Church Denies Claims of Cancelling Protest

In a statement released on Tuesday, June 2, via its public relations page, the RCCG addressed claims that Pastor Adeboye called off a planned protest amid rising insecurity in Nigeria. The church categorically denied this, explaining that Adeboye merely communicated an instruction from the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) regarding an updated plan for a three-day prayer programme. The programme was to conclude with a grand finale at a centralized venue, followed by a rally, as directed by the PFN to all member churches.

No Political Endorsement for Tinubu

The church also refuted allegations that Adeboye campaigned for President Bola Tinubu's administration. According to the statement, Pastor Adeboye has consistently encouraged church members to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and vote for candidates of their choice. He has maintained a neutral stance on political parties, recognizing that church members belong to various political affiliations.

Addressing International Silence Claims

Responding to criticisms that the cleric remains silent on national issues while abroad, the RCCG highlighted that Adeboye has spoken on several occasions about insecurity, corruption, economic hardship, elections, governance, and the need for righteous leadership. However, he chooses to use the language of moral guidance, prayer, and counsel rather than partisan political confrontation.

Clarifying Military Rescue Allegations

The church dismissed narratives suggesting that Pastor Adeboye could order the military to rescue kidnapped victims, emphasizing that he is not the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces. Such expectations, the church noted, are unrealistic and misplace responsibility.

Reactions from the Public

The statement sparked mixed reactions on social media. Some users criticized the church, with one commenter saying, "Our Lord Jesus Christ would condemn the insecurity because it affects mostly the poor, but you have dined with corrupt politicians. Shame on you all." Another added, "RCCG and the ruling APC are like twin brothers. The government is full of your members holding important positions."

Spyro's Criticism

Earlier, singer Spyro had publicly criticized Pastor Adeboye and other religious leaders for remaining silent while insecurity and hardship worsen. In a video shared on May 26, Spyro expressed frustration that churches and mosques continue to hold services without addressing the alarming state of the nation, calling the silence deeply troubling.
