Singer's Wife Accuses Shanko Rasheed of Blaming Her for Son's Death Amid Abuse Claims

Adeyemi Kafayat, the wife of prominent Nigerian Fuji musician Atanda Adekunle Rasheed, widely known as Shanko Rasheed, has publicly shared a deeply distressing account of her marriage and the tragic death of their son Jamal. In an emotional revelation, Kafayat detailed the harrowing moments at the hospital following the loss, where she claims her husband accused her of being responsible for their child's demise.

Hospital Ordeal and Accusations of Blame

In a recent interview on the YouTube show Talk to B hosted by Nollywood actress Biola Bayo, Kafayat recounted that after Jamal passed away on February 27, she immediately contacted Rasheed. Upon his arrival at the hospital, she alleges he began chasing her, vehemently insisting she had killed their son. The situation escalated to the point where hospital staff had to intervene, with a doctor hiding Kafayat for her safety. She tearfully stated, "When my son died, I called him. I didn't even know my son had died. He came and started chasing me around, claiming that I was responsible. People stood up for me, and the doctor hid me somewhere. I couldn't have killed my son."

Custody Battle and Missing Children

Further compounding her grief, Kafayat disclosed that Rasheed took custody of their remaining children, including a two-year-old, shortly after Jamal's death. She expressed profound distress, noting she has not seen her kids for eight days and is unaware of their whereabouts. She criticized Rasheed's parenting, alleging he lacks a stable home, smokes around the children, and physically abuses them. "He took my remaining two kids away. Someone who knows nothing about raising children. He would smoke even in the presence of his children. I would be the one to take my kids off his premises. He beats all my children, including the little one. He is homeless, and he sleeps anywhere. I have not seen my children in eight days. I don't know where he has taken them to, including my two-year-old child," she lamented.

Years of Alleged Abuse and Marital Struggles

Kafayat painted a picture of a marriage marred by prolonged abuse, claiming Rasheed frequently beat both her and their late son Jamal. She revealed that the stress and violence led to the loss of a pregnancy during their relationship. "He was the one who disvirgined me. A baby died inside me because of the stress and violence I went through during pregnancy. One day, he beat Jamal, and it was too much. I regret marrying Rasheed. I loved him despite being poor at the time, and I was warned not to marry him but I never listened," she recounted.

Financial Hardship and Neglect

The grieving mother also detailed instances of financial neglect that she believes worsened Jamal's health. She alleged that Rasheed failed to renew their rent, forcing the family to sleep in a church at one point. When Jamal fell ill, she claims Rasheed refused to assist, prioritizing car repairs instead. "My son was gradually leaving at that time. He said he couldn't come because he needed to fix his car. That I should help him raise one hundred and sixty thousand. I did all I could, but the boy still died at the hospital," she explained.

Background on Shanko Rasheed

Shanko Rasheed is a well-known figure in the Fuji music scene, recently performing at the Fuji Vibration 2025 event in Lagos, where he thrilled fans with his energetic stage presence. However, these allegations cast a shadow over his public persona, highlighting a stark contrast between his professional life and the private turmoil described by his wife.

This story underscores the severe emotional and physical toll of domestic abuse, particularly in the wake of a family tragedy. Kafayat's account raises serious concerns about child welfare and the need for support systems for victims of such ordeals.
