Political activist Omoyele Sowore has launched serious allegations against Senator Ned Nwoko, claiming the lawmaker married actress Regina Daniels when she was still a teenager, contrary to Nwoko's recent denials.
The Controversial Claims
In a Facebook post published on the morning of November 13, Sowore directly challenged Senator Nwoko's statement that he married Regina Daniels when she was 21 years old. The activist presented what he described as evidence showing the couple actually married when Daniels was still a teenager.
Sowore asserted that Senator Nwoko married Regina Daniels when she was under 18 and that they traveled together to the United Arab Emirates shortly after she turned 18. According to Sowore's investigation, Nwoko personally handled all travel documentation for this trip, which was allegedly intended to celebrate her 18th birthday.
Conflicting Accounts
The controversy erupted after Senator Nwoko released an official statement denying claims that he married the Nollywood actress when she was 17 years old. The lawmaker insisted that Regina Daniels was 21 at the time of their marriage and even presented her voter's card as proof of her age.
However, Sowore remains unconvinced by these documents. "Senator Chinedu 'Ned' Nwoko may believe he can outsmart the public, but the record tells a different story," Sowore stated in his social media post.
Pattern of Intimidation Alleged
The activist went beyond the age controversy to accuse the wealthy senator of using state institutions to suppress opposition. Sowore claimed Nwoko has frequently used the Nigeria Police Force to intimidate and detain members of his estranged wife's family and others who have spoken against what he described as the senator's "well-documented impunity."
According to Sowore, this pattern of harassment represents a broader problem in Nigerian society where individuals with political power and questionable fortunes use state institutions as private weapons. He emphasized that "Nigeria cannot claim to stand for justice while such practices continue."
To substantiate his claims, Sowore shared photographic evidence including passports procured by Regina Daniels two years before her marriage to Nwoko and another obtained years after their union. This evidence was first reported by Linda Ikeji on November 13, 2025.
The activist concluded with a strong call for accountability, stating that "justice must mean accountability, even for the rich and well-connected" and that impunity must end in Nigeria.
