A woman from the United States who accused former UFC champion Conor McGregor of sexual assault has officially dropped her lawsuit against the high-profile fighter.
Lawsuit Dismissed in Florida Court
The woman's legal team filed a notice of voluntary dismissal at a Florida court on Tuesday, according to reports. The complainant was identified in initial court documents as a 49-year-old Wall Street executive. She had accused McGregor of sexual battery following an NBA game in Miami in 2023.
McGregor, who is 37 years old, had consistently denied the allegations. The incident was alleged to have occurred in June 2023 after Game 4 of the NBA Finals between the Miami Heat and the Denver Nuggets. McGregor was attending the event as part of a sponsorship deal to promote a pain-relief spray.
Details of the Initial Allegations
The original lawsuit claimed that McGregor met the woman in the VIP section of the arena after the game concluded. It further alleged that an acquaintance of the fighter later escorted the woman to a men's restroom, where McGregor is accused of assaulting her inside a toilet stall.
This is not the only legal issue concerning assault that McGregor has faced. In a separate case in Ireland last year, McGregor was found liable and ordered to pay approximately $250,000 in damages to a woman who accused him of rape.
McGregor's Current Status in UFC
The former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion is also navigating challenges in his fighting career. Last month, he received an 18-month suspension from competition for missing three drug tests within a 12-month period.
Because the suspension was backdated to start in September 2024, McGregor will be eligible to fight again by March of next year. This timeline could potentially allow him to compete at a UFC event rumored to be scheduled for June 14, which is said to coincide with former US President Donald Trump's birthday.
