Actress Yvonne Jegede says Nigerians are not worth fighting for
Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has expressed frustration with Nigerians, stating that they are not worth fighting for. The actress took to her Instagram Stories to share her sentiments, revealing that she often faces attacks when she speaks out against the ills in the country.
Response to First Lady Remi Tinubu's call
Jegede's remarks appear to be a response to First Lady Remi Tinubu, who recently urged popular stars like Davido and Burna Boy to help with initiatives that lift Nigerians out of poverty. The actress questioned why ordinary citizens who work hard, earn money, and pay their taxes should also be expected to do the work of the government.
She wrote: "So after they work hard to earn and then pay their taxes, they should help the government to provide a better life for the masses. While the tax collected is meant for some family members."
Impact on mental health
Jegede further lamented the toll the situation has taken on her well-being, stating: "This country has stretched my mental health to its limits." She added that the more she speaks about the uncommon things she sees happening in her country, the more people drag her. "I see why people stay quiet in times of crisis. I wasn't born to look the other way when humanity is being trampled upon but you see Nigerians aren't worth fighting for because bigotry is the order of the day," she concluded.
