The Voice of Orphans Africa and Diaspora Initiative (VOADI) has revealed that its upcoming 2025 Orphans' Carnival will honor Afrobeat superstar Davido for his extensive charitable work with vulnerable children throughout Nigeria.
Carnival to Coincide with Davido's Birthday
VOADI Founder and President Tunde Okoroko made the announcement during a press conference in Abuja, disclosing that the sixth edition of the annual event will take place on November 21, 2025, which aligns with Davido's birthday. Okoroko emphasized that many Nigerians remain unaware of the significant impact the musician has made on orphaned children nationwide.
The carnival serves as a crucial meeting point where orphans, underprivileged children, and potential donors connect in an environment focused on hope, empowerment, and support. Since its establishment six years ago, the event has consistently hosted between 50 and 70 orphanages from the Federal Capital Territory and surrounding states including Nasarawa, Niger, Kaduna, Benue, and Plateau.
Tangible Impact of Davido's Generosity
Okoroko shared specific examples of how Davido's contributions have transformed orphanages across the country. "Davido is not just a celebrity; he uses his fame to put smiles on the faces of children he doesn't even know," Okoroko stated during the briefing.
He revealed that numerous orphanage homes have utilized funds donated by the artist to address critical needs, including:
- Drilling boreholes for clean water access
- Comprehensive roofing repairs
- Building renovation projects
"Some homes tell us, 'It was Davido's fund we used to dig boreholes.' Others say, 'his donation helped us re-roof our building.' His giving goes far and touches lives," Okoroko emphasized, highlighting the practical applications of the musician's philanthropy.
Expanding Reach and Recognizing Humanitarian Efforts
The 2025 carnival dedicated to Davido represents VOADI's way of expressing gratitude on behalf of orphanages that cannot directly contact the artist. "Even if they write letters, it may never get to him. This carnival is a message: Davido, the orphans appreciate you," Okoroko explained.
The organization has ambitious plans to expand the event's reach in coming years, aiming to include participation from orphanages in all 36 states of Nigeria. The upcoming edition will feature special awards honoring Davido's contributions to humanitarian work, along with the carnival's traditional talent showcases where children can secure scholarships, skill-training opportunities, and other forms of support.
VOADI Matron Dr. Regina Omo-Agege also spoke at the event, urging other celebrities to follow Davido's example in using their influence for humanitarian causes. "You rise by lifting others. Who knows what these children will become tomorrow? Davido has shown what it means to give without knowing the beneficiaries," she stated, making a direct appeal to other entertainers and public figures to emulate the singer's charitable actions.
